Bea Asurmendi, born and raised in the Basque Country, has had a lifelong passion for music and singing. In 2013, driven by a desire to immerse herself in one of Europe’s most vibrant melting pots of musical cultures, she moved to London and furthered her musical studies by completing a Bachelor’s degree in Popular Music Performance.

A few years later, in 2020, she was offered a place at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music & Drama to pursue a Master’s in Jazz Performance (Singing). There, she studied under the guidance of jazz icons such as Scott Stroman, Tina May, Brigitte Beraha, and Clare Wheeler, and had the opportunity to work with renowned artists including Norma Winstone and New York Voices. She was awarded the prestigious Next Level Award by Help Musicians UK to further develop her musical project.

Bea has performed in some of London’s most renowned venues, including Pizza Express Jazz Club, Soho Jazz Festival, Crazy Coqs, 606 Club, and SpiceJazz Soho. In 2023, she was selected to showcase her music at the renowned EFG London Jazz Festival, where she also had the honor of opening Ari Hoenig’s concert at Milton Court Concert Hall. In 2024, she was invited once again to be part of the festival’s lineup, delivering a sold-out performance. That same year, she headlined the Jazz Stage at the High Tide Festival in London.

In the Basque Country, she has presented her music at Jazzon Aretoa, Kutxa Fundazioa Kluba, Musika Parkean Festival, and Klaustro Sounds Festival, among others. Upcoming tour dates in the Basque Country include performances at the Guggenheim Museum, Coliseo Theatre, and Altxerri Jazz Club.

Bea has also shared the stage with her sister, artist Idoia Asurmendi, at renowned venues across the Iberian Peninsula, including Teatro Lara and La Sala del Movistar Arena in Madrid, Donostia Festibala, Teatro Victoria Eugenia in San Sebastián, and Kafe Atzokia in Bilbao. In 2023, the sisters joined their voices for the Saharari Kantari concert at the famous Kursaal in San Sebastián and for the Atlantikaldia Festival. Throughout 2023 and 2024, Bea performed as a guest artist during Judit Neddermann’s Basque Country tour. She is also featured — together with Basque artists Izaro Andrés, Olatz Salvador, Maren, and Idoia Asurmendi — on Judit Neddermann’s album Artean, released last year, and with which they are touring across the Basque Country (Guggenheim Museum, Lugaritz Theatre) and Catalonia (Aphònica Festival, Casino de l’Aliança de Poblenou).

She was recently invited to perform as a guest artist with internationally renowned saxophonist and composer Andrzej Olejniczak and his Bask Quartet in Poland.

On another front, Bea collaborates with composer and director Fernando Velázquez, recording vocals for film and theatre soundtracks (Buffalo Kids, El Bar que se tragó a todos los españoles, El Test, Ensimismada, among others). Most notably, Velázquez’s song “Show Me” from the movie Buffalo Kids, featuring Bea as lead vocalist, was nominated for the Goya Awards 2025 for Best Original Song.

Catch Bea on tour as she presents her album across the United Kingdom, Basque Country, Spain, and the rest of Europe.

DEBUT ALBUM: Asteartea

Bea is excited to consolidate her work and her voice as an artist on her debut album called Asteartea. This project represents a significant milestone in her career, allowing her to express her unique musical identity. It consists of an evocative compilation of compositions in Basque, English, and Spanish, where contemporary jazz merges with Basque and Iberian folklore. The songs are inspired by her enriching experience in a Women's Circle that profoundly impacted her life. Bea's unmistakably personal voice and emotive lyrics reveal a unique expression of vulnerability in this album, creating a soundscape that invites listeners to reflect on grief, forgiveness, family, self-love, women's empowerment, and the importance of mental health awareness.
